Comments from students and alumni
‘With hindsight, for me the MBA was only partly about the content, crucial and central though this often seems, especially before exams. It was much more about the process in which the learning takes place, the impact this has on where you feel you can add value through changed perspectives, the relationships you cultivate with a diverse group and, of course, timing. Henley scored highly on all counts.'

‘I had just moved on from being an editor for English and American literature with a publishing house in Leipzig , East Germany , to another career in the public sector after the fall of the wall. Soon I started a distance learning MBA at Henley and it is – apart from my children and my nice husband – the best thing in the world that ever occurred to me.I was young again, … learning to think in a focussed, pragmatic solution orientated way and I had a lot of fun.'

‘For me it was always a positive experience which reinforced my decision to study for a Henley Distance Learning MBA. I was particularly impressed with the quality of tutor support. The biggest challenge I faced was choosing the right topic for my dissertation. I can recall nearing the end of the formal learning and examination stages and not having a clear idea on which to base my research. This is probably something many students, past and present will recognize. What made the difference for me was that one particular Henley tutor sensed that an earlier piece of written work he had marked for me could be developed into a dissertation and offered help. I feel that without that inspiration, guidance and coaching, I would not have been able to develop to the research proposal let alone the final completed piece of work. I opted for the Henley MBA because of the power of the brand both in the UK and Internationally. Having the Henley MBA has definitely enhanced my value from an employment perspective and the disciplines it has taught me have definitely made me a more effective manager. As an alumnus, Henley is still part of my life and I regularly visit the college and use the facilities, particularly the PowerGen library where the staff are particularly helpful. I also plan to enrol on the Henley coaching programme later in the year.

‘What was most important to me with my Henley experience was the flexibility of the programme to fit it around my work/life needs. (I started it when living in London , completing it when in San Francisco ). I liked its practical focus – it was not just ‘academic' but you could, and were encouraged, to use your ‘real-life' work for the projects. (This was tremendously beneficial to my business.) The variety of students (in age, nationality, background) was really great – they weren't just all in their late 20s but ranged into their 50s and came from different work backgrounds and countries. …What made a difference to my studies was the collaboration, encouragement and support I had from some of the faculty and other students – in spite of the distance and infrequent meetings. I was one of the more unusual students whose study was self-funded and came from a non-academic background (I had trained as graphic designer and was Managing Director of a creative agency that I founded.) I took the MBA to broaden my business experience and to increase my ability to think more broadly and strategically. In fact, I decided to sell the company and change career direction. I now work as a Career Transition Consultant and a Small Business Adviser – coaching and mentoring clients helping them work through often difficult, complex, and disruptive transitions that characterise business and individual careers today. It is extremely satisfying and rewarding work. T he MBA helped enable and support this new direction.
